Accessibility

We have designed our website to work for people with different browsers, devices and needs. It’s now simpler, clearer and easier to use for all visitors to www.nationaldeposit.co.uk

Text size
The text used on our site can be changed. You can change your browser settings on the top menu by selecting ‘View’.

Descriptive Links
All links have been written to make sense when taken out of context. Links to other websites will open a new browser window.

Navigation
A hidden menu has been placed at the beginning of each page to allow screen readers to link to the main areas of the page. A hidden link has also been provided at the beginning of each page to provide easy access to information on accessibility. Navigation menu headings are marked up as HTML lists to ensure that the number of links in the list can be read out and can be skipped easily. HTML heading tags are used to convey the page structure using H1 tags for main headings, H2 tags for sub headings etc.

Finding pages
We’ve included a site map on our website to help you navigate and find specific pages. We have also included a ‘Search’ function on the top right corner of every page to help you find pages.

Portable document files (PDFs)
We do provide documents in PDF format on our website. In order to download these you will need to have Adobe Reader® to read these documents. If you haven’t you can get this free on the adobe website www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.htm.

Language
Abbreviations are kept to an absolute minimum and where used an explanation is given and every effort to ensure that content is clear and simple.

Colours
We have taken care to ensure our site’s font and background colour combinations contrast significantly and are effective in ensuring information is still clear when viewed.

Forms
Forms follow a logical tab sequence to ensure easy navigation. Most form fields also have ‘label’ and ‘id’ attributes to associate the form field with its label to allow for easy entry of data.

Tables
Where we use data tables these have header cells to allow screen readers to render them intelligently and table summaries are used. We have wherever possible avoided using tables for layout purposes.

Images
All images and graphics used in this site include descriptive alt tag attributes (alternative text). Where an image has no importance, the alt tag is set to null to make the site easier to use.

JavaScript
The use of JavaScript has been kept to an absolute minimum. Where it is used then all pages and process remain accessible should JavaScript be turned off.

Stylesheets
This site uses cascading style sheets (CSS) for visual layout. If your browser or browsing device does not support CSS the use of structured semantic mark up will ensure that the content of each page is still readable and clearly structured.

Browser compatibility
Our site has been tested and is compatible with Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari (Apple Mac) and Opera.
